Upcoming Events

For Our Students

We are very excited to offer the following opportunities for our students at Locust Grove Elementary.

• A family oriented environment that focuses on building relationships between families and staff
• An educational experience that is individualized to address the social, emotional and academic well being of our children. Few if any purchased programs will be used, i.e. Accelerated Reading, Accelerated Math
• K/1, 2/3, 4th, and 5th grade configurations
• Anticipated class sizes of 22:1
• Primary assistants shared at the K/1 level with the remaining primary assistant funding going toward reducing class sizes K-5
• A daily Literacy Block from 8:00-10:00
• A daily Intervention Block from 10:00-10:30
• A Related Arts program which will include Art, Physical Education, Music and Computer Lab utilizing a rotation from 5-8 days depending on grade level
• Math Coach via an ESS During the School Day Waiver
• Literacy Coach
• Intramural activities including, but not limited to, Chorus, Basketball, Cross Country, Governor’s Cup and Student Technology Club
• Before and after school childcare via the Lions’ Pride program
• Newscast

For Teachers and Staff

• Approximately 50- minutes common team planning daily
• Participation in Professional Learning Communities which will meet 1-day a week during planning and -days per month after school
• Approximately 2 required instruction focused sessions per month after school
• Embedded Professional Development opportunities that are acquired via the after school PLC and faculty meetings
• Involvement on Tier Intervention committees which focus on the development of remediation and enrichment activities
• One or possibly two special education units
• Full supply allocations
• Guidance Groups: divorce, anger, friendship
• Community Support Activities: Red Cross, Angel Tree, Relay for Life
• ARC Meetings held after school
• Daily scheduled recess
• Trimester grading periods
• Using technology on a regular basis
• Common area rules/discipline which are based on respect for all

• The 84,000 square foot facility has the capacity for 700 children
• Will open in August 2008 with a projectedenrollment of 581 students
